Homemade Fritos (Mexican Snack)
20 mins prepServes 4
Learn how to make this popular crispy and crunchy Mexican snack from scratch at home. Made with masa harina and baked until golden, these Fritos are perfect seasoned with salt or chili powder, served with lime juice and hot sauce.
Preheat the oven to 375 F. In a bowl, combine the masa harina, salt, and lard until all the ingredients are well mixed. Add the water; you may need more or less, so add it gradually until you achieve a soft and slightly sticky consistency. Transfer the masa to a pastry bag and shape the fritos on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Bake them for 35 - 40 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, flipping with a spatula several times in between. Season with salt for a classic taste, or try a version with spicy chili powder seasoning for a kick. Serve with lime juice and hot sauce to enhance the flavors.
