Soda Bread π with T-Rex arms π
20 mins prepServes 8
A recipe for traditional soda bread, featuring a simple preparation process and baking instructions with multiple brushing intervals for a delicious finish. The description also includes a humorous note about 'T-Rex arms'.
In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients, then add the butter and break it very well into the flour. When everything is well incorporated, add the egg and buttermilk, mix it by hand to avoid over kneading the dough and then having a dense bread. Fold and knead repetitively until no lumps, then form a ball, place it in a sheet pan with parchment paper. Mix the melted butter and buttermilk, brush the dough with it, reserve the rest. Bake at 375 for 40 minutes, but after 10 minutes, take it out and brush it again, then again in another 10 minutes and one more time in another 10 minutes but this time sprinkle the crystal sugar and continue baking for another 10 minutes. You can check if itβs done, by sticking a toothpick in the center. Using a good quality butter, makes a big difference. This bread can be used for savory food like a toast or a sandwich or could be eaten just with a cup of coffee. Warm is delicious but also out of the fridge at the next day.
