A fun, easy recipe for "Tamaliens" - tamales shaped like aliens, perfect for Halloween. Made with blue and regular corn masa, lard, and a savory chicken filling, then steamed to perfection.
1. Soak the corn husk in hot water for about 10 minutes.
2. In a bowl, mix the blue and regular masa mixes, salt, and lard.
3. Gradually add water little by little while mixing until you achieve a play-do consistency that is slightly sticky but won’t get stuck on your fingers.
4. Prepare the shredded chicken filling: either boil chicken with chicken bouillon, fresh garlic, and onion, then shred it, or use rotisserie chicken. Mix the shredded chicken with sazón; if sazón is unavailable, use taco seasoning.
5. To assemble: Pick a big corn husk or place two together to make it wider. Place the masa (shaped like an alien as shown in the video) over the waxy smooth side of the husk.
6. Fold the husk, wrapping the masa alien, and tie it up with a strip of husk.
7. Steam the tamales for 30 minutes.
8. Remove from the heat and let them rest for 20 minutes while covered with the lid before serving.
